What if My Spouse Wants a Divorce Even Though I Don’t?
Hi, I’m Tulsa mom’s divorce attorney Keith Flinn. Well we’re beyond the at-fault divorce here in Oklahoma and now judges will grant forces for what they call irreconcilable differences. That is to say only one party can initiate and receive and ask for a divorce without reason or without the consent of the other party. Now courts will not force anyone to be married to another person in the common day now.
What Can You Do in This Situation?
What you can do is ask to work on it with your spouse and if your spouse is willing to do so maybe see a marriage counselor and maybe even an individual counselor to address some of the things that were going on your side of the fence which are causing these marital conflicts. Stalling will only hurt you if it’s continued. You’re going to grieve, you’re going to feel resentment, anger, shame, and or guilt and these things are completely natural.
Important Considerations
If it’s over you don’t want to stall your own emotional development. It’s important to keep in mind that stalling can adversely affect what you perceive to be the adequate custody plan, your custody planning, and or division of the marital estate. Try not to respond impulsively. Saying or doing things that you will regret is not uncommon in marital conflict and these things can have life-altering consequences. It’s important to talk to a skilled divorce attorney and potentially a licensed therapist as soon as possible.
